Abstract

The book “Paths of Learning: History and Perspectives of Technical Education in Ecuador” is a significant contribution to contemporary educational analysis, offering a comprehensive view of the evolution, challenges, and projections of technical education in the country. It combines academic and scientific rigor, allowing readers to understand how technical education has become a fundamental pillar of national development. The work traces the history of technical training from the first arts and crafts schools promoted by Eloy Alfaro to the current technical high school and higher technological education programs. Eleven chapters analyze the role of technical education in economic transformation, innovation, and social inclusion, highlighting its ability to respond to the needs of the labor market without losing its human dimension. The book also emphasizes the importance of upskilling and reskilling processes, which are necessary in the face of technological advances and globalization. The authors propose a humanistic vision of technical education, oriented towards the integral development of the individual, equity, and sustainability. The work is presented as an essential guide for educators, researchers, and public policy makers, showing us that technical education not only trains people for work, but also builds the future, justice, and social dignity.
